This month of May we have been travelling all over the world on Where in The World !! We are journeying to countries near and far, learning about their history, culture & language, cuisine, and other fun facts. We are being introduced to important citizens, visiting famous landmarks, and watching regional recipes being made.
I hope you are all well rested for this week’s adventures! We’re heading to 4 countries in the Middle East: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Isreal

History:
Did you know … History of Saudi Arabia covers thousands of years with lots of people from different cultures living there. There was a culture called the Dilmun culture among them, which was very old and existed along the Persian Gulf. It was as old as the ancient civilizations of Sumerians and the Egyptians. Saudi Arabia became an independent nation after the Ottoman Empire was defeated in World War I. Abdul-Aziz bin Saud regained power for the House of Saud. In 1932 the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was formed with Abdul-Aziz was king.
Culture & Language:
Did you know … Culture of Saudi Arabia. The cultural setting of Saudi Arabia is greatly influenced by the Arab and Islamic culture. The Society is in general deeply religious, conservative, traditional, and family oriented. Many attitudes and traditions are centuries-old, derived from the Arab civilization and Islamic heritage. Music and dance are an integral part of the lives of Saudis. Clothing in Saudi Arabia is dictated by the religion and customs of the country and is strictly enforced.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:
Did you know … Riyadh is the capital city and largest city of Saudi Arabia. It is in the center of the Arabian peninsula on a large plateau and it has 4,260,000 people. Riyadh is also a very modern city with tall skyscrapers. The climate of Riyadh is hot desert. The extreme hot season occurs during the summer months. In August, it has the highest temperature at 43.6 degrees Celsius. The winter season is windy and cool. The little precipitation occurs in summer. In March and April, it has sufficient amount of rainfall. Dust storm is a common phenomenon in Riyadh. The thick dust disrupts the visibility of the people. During the dust storms, the visibility is less than 33 feet or 10 meters.
Famous Landmarks:
Did you know … Adventurous travelers willing to go off the beaten path are guaranteed to find dozens of historic landmarks in Saudi Arabia. Thanks to open tourism in the Kingdom, sites like Ushaiqer Heritage Village and Al Ahsa Oasis are ripe for exploring, and tourists are finding more to love about Saudi Arabia’s historic sites every day. Even if off-road desert expeditions, caving and hiking aren’t itinerary musts, visitors will find plenty of places to take them back in time in Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh.
Famous Citizens:
Did you know … Not surprisingly, Saudi Arabia is the homeland of several billionaires like businessman Mohammed Hussein Ali Al Amoudi who is one of the richest Saudi Arabian citizens in the world and the second richest black person in the world. Another millionaire Maan Abdul Wahed Al-Sanea is famous not just for his vast fortunes, but also for the several educational and charitable facilities he founded.

There have been three chief influences that have molded the Saudi Arabian cuisine alongside their cultural norms and values depicted in the Saudi Arabian Cooking today. First is the nomadic Bedouin influence. Second is the food constraints given in the Holy Book of Quran. Third is the ancient Arabian Dominance of the spice routes. Some of the common food items in Saudi Arabian cuisine include wheat, rice, lamb, chicken, yogurt, potatoes, seafood and dates.
