Let's Learn About Spain!
History:
Did you know … Spain is located beside Portugal and below France and is also the only European country that borders Africa. Settlers have migrated to Spain from Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean since the dawn of history. Spain is a constitutional monarchy, with the king and the elected president sharing the power. Today, Spain is a popular country to visit. It has beautiful cities, interesting countryside with mountains, beaches and a warm climate in summer.
Culture & Language:
Did you know … Many Spaniards share a common ethnic background: a mixture of the early inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula, the Celts, and later conquerors from Europe and Africa. Spaniards are known for their love of life and for eating and drinking with family and friends. With vibrant, historic cities and sunny beaches, Spain attracts more tourists than any other European country except France. Spain’s official language are Castilian Spanish, Basque, Catalan, and Galician. Its currency is the euro.
Madrid, Spain:
Did you know … Madrid is the capital of Spain and is its largest city. This city was officially made the national capital by Philip III, an entire generation after Philip II took the court to Madrid in 1561. Madrid is a city of contrasting styles, reflecting clearly the different periods in which change and development took place.
Famous Landmarks:
Did you know … From medieval castles to dreamy mosques and futuristic museums, the list of landmarks in Spain is truly impressive. From Barcelona to Madrid and beyond, these Spain landmarks tell stories of the country’s rich history.
Famous Citizens:

Jamón serrano, a cured ham, and chorizo, a seasoned sausage, are popular. Seafood and fish are popular in coastal areas. Other popular foods are cheeses, eggs, beans, rice, nuts (especially almonds), and bread (a crusty white bread, baked fresh daily, is common).
