The Club's Art Studio is an entire area dedicated to Boys & Girls Clubs of America's core program area, "The Arts". The brightly decorated space provides members with professional quality art supplies and instruction from our experienced full time Visual Arts Director.
Club members can come and go from the Art Studio during regular hours. Our Visual Arts Director and Studio Assistant organize and implement a variety of projects and activities after school and during school vacations. Covering everything from drawing, painting, and collage; a majority of the daily activities are geared toward the National Fine Arts Program, allowing members to work year round at building their confidence and nurturing their developing skills as young artists while experimenting with color theory and the elements/principles of design in a calm, dedicated creative space.
National Fine Arts is a year-round program that encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits. A panel of distinguished local artists judge art pieces and select winners that are then submitted to the National Fine Arts Exhibit. Winners of the national contest have their work displayed throughout the year at BGCA events, including the annual National Conference. Each winning work is featured in a virtual gallery on BGCA's website.
The Images Makers Photography Program encourages Club members ages 6 to 18 to learn and practice black-and-white, color, digital and alternative process photography featuring categories in portrait, nature and surroundings, fashion and design, culture and tradition, and editing and filter application. Teens (11-18) also have access to the Adobe Photo Suite and our Visual Arts Director hosts tutorials in Photoshop during Late Night Programming for teen members.
A new opportunity for Club members to gain experience working with video/audio production, digitial photography, graphic design, journalism, & more! The program is run in collaboration with the Education Room and combines creative problem solving and real world applications, with focus on exposing Club members to potential careers in a creative field.
